Holistic Renovation of Modernism Housing

Identity for conference, exhibition, and publication

Moira Visuals was invited by the Architects Association of Lithuania to create the visual identity for the international conference, exhibition, and publication Holistic Renovation of Modernism Housing. The project addresses the future of large scale residential architecture and the transformation of modernism housing to meet contemporary living standards.

Context and Strategic Background

Large apartment buildings constructed fifty to seventy years ago no longer respond to current expectations of comfort, sustainability, and quality of life. Existing renovation programs often focus narrowly on energy efficiency, overlooking spatial quality, architectural coherence, and social impact.

The initiative proposes a comprehensive renovation model that integrates energy performance, living environment quality, architectural integrity, and community involvement. It emphasizes resident participation in decision making, inclusive governance, and the development of financial and legal frameworks that enable collaboration between public institutions, private stakeholders, and local communities. Social inclusion is a core principle, ensuring that vulnerable groups remain active participants in the transformation of their living environments.

The initiative brings together countries from Regions 1 and 2 of the International Union of Architects. It was initiated by the Lithuanian Union of Architects in collaboration with the Baltic Association of Architects. Project partners include the Madrid Forum and the Architects Council of Europe.

Design Strategy and Visual Concept

The identity was designed to express renewal, openness, and a human centred approach to architectural transformation. The visual system communicates optimism and progress while maintaining credibility within an institutional and professional context.

A yellow green colour palette was developed, inspired by natural light and landscape elements, symbolising growth, renewal, and improved living conditions. Geometric architectural forms reference the modular rhythm of modernism housing blocks, translating modernism structures into a contemporary visual language. A clear grid system structures information and supports clarity across all communication formats, while typographic hierarchy ensures accessibility and legibility.
